The Town of Granby is hiring a Water Operator to join our Public Works team. This is a full-time, benefited position, with rich health care, dental care, retirement, and paid time off programs available.
General Purpose
Operate, inspect, maintain and repair Town of Granby’s wells, water plants, tanks,
distribution systems, augmentation system, water meters systems and all other aspects of operation to comply with USEPA and Colorado Department of Health standards and ensure community satisfaction and safety. This also includes all aspects of the raw water and non-potable water systems as well as any other tasks as assigned by the Chief Operator, Town Manager or Water Superintendent.
Must have the ability to assist nights and weekends as needed to provide water repairs, water quality testing, and rotating on call status for system checks that ensure proper system operation and regulatory compliance on a 24-hour basis.
Must be willing to perform all repairs as well as maintenance and cleaning of the Town of Granby’s equipment, vehicles, buildings as well as other structures and devices. Will perform a variety of skilled, semi-skilled and labor tasks associated with mechanics, construction, maintenance, and laborer and correspondence related activities.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain water system to ensure safe water to consumers.
- Daily system checks which will include water treatment plants, pressure reducing vaults and valves, pump stations, water storage tanks, reservoirs, water impoundments and well sites.
- Weekly inspection of all vaults for issues as well as meter reading and maintenance.
- Periodic cleaning of intake structures of pump stations which could include hazardous conditions with cold moving water and confined space.
- Plowing and shoveling of all locations as needed.
- Weekly safety meetings.
- Various training and certifications.
- Cleaning of all system infrastructure sites on a weekly basis.
- Oversight of ongoing and continual construction connected to town systems.
- Maintenance of all hydrants throughout system to include, flushing, painting,
oiling, anti-seize on ears, and exercising of both hydrant and isolation valves. - Exercising of all main line water valves throughout entire water system yearly.
- Flushing of distribution system as needed to maintain required residuals thorough entire potable water distribution system.
- PRV maintenance of vault hardware and valves including exercising valves and
cleaning of screens. - Pumping out of PRV vaults due to infiltration, leaks and condensation.
- System check of augmentation and raw water systems and associated facilitates.
- Maintain and log chemical levels.
- Place and take shipment of chemical orders. Transfer of hazardous chemicals from shipping containers to WTF chemical storage basins. Chemical mixing where
applicable. - Log system readings daily.
- Confined space entry.
- Work in remote locations.
- On call responsibilities; rotate 24/7 coverage.
- Will be required to operate near open and moving water such as rivers, streams and reservoirs.
- Assist with water quality testing and ensure regulatory compliance with USEPA and Colorado Department of Health standards.
- Clean, repair and maintain distribution system including main lines, valves, curb
stops, fire hydrants, storage tanks and meters. - Checks on equipment for proper operation, some of which includes but is not limited to: chemical feeds systems, chemical pumps, raw water pumps, pH and CL17 monitoring equipment, SCADA supervisory control system, daily reservoir inspections and levels, pump hours, phase monitor, air compressor, and heating units.
- Repair and maintain equipment as needed.
- Repair and maintain intake structure, ponds and dam. Clean ponds and piping.
- Repair and maintain mechanical equipment: cleaning, grease and oil, replace
parts, and perform preventative maintenance. - Do necessary water quality testing and submit appropriate reports to Colorado
Department of Health to ensure compliance as directed by Chief Operator. - Clean, calibrate and maintain online and bench instruments used for compliance
recording and documentation. - Troubleshoot and repair system controls.

Knowledge, Skills and Ability
- Ability to conduct all necessary water quality compliance testing or the aptitude to learn chemical and microbiological analyses on drinking water, and coordinates water quality sampling and analysis.
- Ability to learn, if not skilled, in equipment operation and upkeep, water plant operation, safety procedures, building maintenance and cleaning.
- Ability to operate and maintain a variety of sophisticated analytical instruments; prepare accurate and thorough water quality reports; develop, validate, and certify new analytical methods for water analysis.
- Experience as heavy equipment operator helpful, not required.
- Electrical, plumbing, and welding experience helpful, not required.
- Mechanical ability and construction experiences a plus.
- Ability to work independently, often with little or no oversight and can work cooperatively with a team.
- Knowledge of current and pending Town of Granby, State of Colorado, and Federal Rules and Regulations.
- Knowledge of Water Quality laboratory operations.
Education or Formal Training and/or Experience
- This position requires a minimum of a Class D Colorado Water Operators license and a Level 1 Colorado Water Distribution license. Having these licenses in advance of employment is preferred but is not required. The town will allow the employee some on-the-job training and some study time to pass the necessary tests within one year or a reasonable period as determined by the Water Superintendent with input from the Chief Operator.

Entry-Level: This is a non-exempt position with a starting rate of $27.00 per hour to $30.00 per hour. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists with the implementation of programs for water conservation efforts addressing both indoor and outdoor uses in all customer categories.

- Reviews and analyzes alternative measures to develop and recommend specific water conservation programs.
- Prepares and disseminates technical and educational information through various platforms such as presentations, written materials, and other outreach and promotional processes in collaboration with the Community Relations department.

- Manages the use of two District vehicles during the irrigation season.
Work Schedule
Generally, this is a part time schedule of 24 hours per week. Days and times are flexible, with mandatory Fridays. This position requires one weekend day per month to represent the District at various community events. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.

Eligibility for a signing bonus
The successful candidate could be eligible for a hiring bonus of up to $5000. An initial $2500 payable upon the WWSD’s first regular payroll date following the start date and subject to all applicable tax reporting and withholding requirements. Once the successful candidate has completed the 90-day introductory period, they could be eligible for an additional $2500.

Water Meter Operator
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Engages in the production, treatment, storage, and distribution of water, including plants, wells, pump stations, tanks, valves, hydrants, and SCADA system monitoring.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Engages in the daily operation and maintenance of secondary wastewater treatment facilities and collection system including but not limited to treatment, changing chemical containers, dewaters sludge, delivers needed materials, and performs general plant maintenance and housekeeping including buildings and grounds.

The Redhill Forest HOA and Water System located near Fairplay Colorado is seeking to contract an Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC). The Operator will:
1. Work as a contractor and must have experience in operating a small water treatment plant with pressure filters used for treating ground water.
2. Be familiar with all aspects of chemical treatment and being in charge of meeting local, state and federal regulations.
3. Oversee a water system consists of 220 water meters, 581 lots, 2 wells, a Kurtia/Tonka water treatment plant and two storage tanks. The system removes iron, manganese, hydrogen sulfide, radium and adjust Ph. The treatment consist of aeration, potassium permanganate, HMO, filtration, polymer addition and chlorination. The HOA contracts with a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) to perform onsite visits for testing and oversight of waste disposal. The system can be monitored and controlled by computer.
4. Maintain water system components that typically treat 2 to 3 million gallons per year.
5. Coordinate and work with a Redhill Contractor that performs excavation work for purposes of water system maintenance, component installations and new users.
6. PRV maintenance, taping waterlines, etc as needed. The water system is in excellent condition with essential backup inventory of pumps.
7. Conduct system drive by meter reading and reports. Estimated to add ten new meters per year.
The HOA is currently undergoing an Engineering analysis to identify current and future planning needs.

- Installs, maintains and repairs water mains of various sizes and materials, meter sets, service lines, water valves and fire hydrants in accordance with District standards and specifications. Makes taps of various sizes on all types of water mains. Assists in conducting water flow tests on fire hydrants.
- Provides assistance in preparing the work site. Unloads truck and distribute materials, tools and equipment. Sets up barricades and traffic control devices and directs traffic for smaller construction projects. Repairs road and excavation sites as necessary.
- Locates and operates valves and fire hydrants; ensures that air is properly removed from water mains and that valves are opened and closed properly to prevent damage to the distribution system.

Wastewater Treatment Operator - Nathrop, CO
We are a homeowners association (HOA) community with 306 privately owned lots in Nathrop, CO. Our wastewater treatment facility is a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) plant, designed to process up to 12,100 gallons per day. The system includes a single lift station. As the sole wastewater operator for our community, you would be responsible for all aspects of the system's operation and maintenance. Salary level will be commensurate with experience.

Education or Formal Training:
Utilities Operator I: High school diploma or GED; minimum one year of manual labor or mechanical maintenance and repair experience.
Utilities Operator II: High school diploma or GED; minimum two years of experience with municipal utilities or equivalent combination of educa tion, licensing, and experience.
Certificates and Licenses:
Valid Colorado's Driver's License.
Utilities Certifications:
Operator I: Class I Distribution and Collections license and/or Operator D Water/Wastewater Treatment license (or ability to obtain within one year).
Operator II: Class II Distribution and Collections license and/or Operator C Water/Wastewater Treatment license.
Work Environment:
General environment for a utilities department, which includes outdoor work in inclement weather and around hazardous chemicals.
Regular operation of heavy machinery and manual labor.
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
May work varying shifts, overtime, and on-call rotations.

LOOKING FOR A LEAD WATER/WASTEWATER MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN.
Will work directly with our Maintenance/Installation Manager.
Great travel experiences around the USA.
Must have experience repairing, removing and replacing wastewater preliminary treatment equipment such as grinders, augers, compactors, aerators and installing water treatment plants including Commercial/Industrial Water Softeners.
$25-$30 hour to start, plus per diem, paid holidays, sick time, nice hotels, etc.
Will train you to run your own crew!
Travel required, pass background check & good driving record.
